As part of Conservation Week 2010, the Sustainable Energy Now committee have arranged a social evening this Wednesday with a short talk jointly presented by our Chair Steve Gates, Secretary Tim Barling and Vice-Chair Angus King and plenty of opportunity for discussion and networking.

Western Australia has abundant renewable energy resources including solar, wind, wave, geothermal and biomass. Many technologies to harness these resources already exist or are in development. Come along and share your passion for a sustainable energy future in WA.

For those of you new to SEN, this is an opportunity to hear our key messages and engage with fellow SEN members. Others may wish to come along to renew your enthusiasm, continue conversations or get involved in some of our projects.

Tim Barling
Secretary
Sustainable Energy Now

Monday, 13 September, 2010
5:45pm for a 6pm start
Edith Cowan University, South West Campus, Bunbury, room 6.102

This presentation outlines why we need to change rapidly to renewable energy sources and some ideas on how to do this. Renewable energy in the form of geothermal, sun, waves and wind are very abundant and many of the technologies that we need to harness them are already here or in development.

What we need now are the political will and understanding, and sources of finance. There will be some discussion of climate change issues.

The information presented in this talk is readily available and easy to access and understand.

Profile: Tim Barling is Secretary of Sustainable Energy Now - a volunteer group of scientists, engineers, computer specialists, economists, designers, doctors, academics, politicians, retirees, students and others who are passionate about the renewable energy potential of WA and are studying how to harness it.

Tim has a broad range of experience ranging from research at Kew Botanical Gardens to work as an animal carer on farms and in veterinary clinics. Always interested in his surrounds, he has also worked as a ranger and been a member of a number of steering committees.
