Dear Supporter,
On behalf of the SEN Committee I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays and would like to thank those that have helped make 2011 a success for Sustainable Energy Now, Inc. This year we have dramatically increased our presence, exposure and portfolio. We now have over 200 members and over a 1,000 supporters. We have hosted nine 'SEN Presents' events at City West Lotteries House for which I'd like to thank the speakers and those that helped set up the venue and provide catering each month. You can view many of the past presentations here. We also hosted a Strategic Energy Initiative 2031 Community Consultation Workshop facilitated by the Office of Energy and with Beyond Zero Emissions co-hosted the Perth launch of their Zero Carbon Australia Stationary Energy Plan (follow the link for a free copy) at Perth Town Hall which was attended by well over 400 people.
We also co-hosted three 'Parliamentary Renewables Updates' with MPs from three differnet parties at Parliament House: Hon Max Trenorden MLC with Beyond Zero Emissions, Peter Abetz MLA with Carnegie Wave Energy and Hon Kate Doust MLC with A/Prof Ricardo Rüther as well as facilitated a number of site visits by parliamentarians to Carnegie Wave Energy's Research Facility. In March some of us were fortunate to meet with the Prime Minister to give a demonstration of our Renewable Energy Computer SImulation for the South West. The simulation has been recently updated and can be used online here, we welcome any feedback.
I'd like to thank the volunteers that helped tend the SEN stall at over a dozen events, some that occurred over a number of days, including university open days at ECU, Curtin and UWA, SciTech hosted Science Awareness Festivals in Geraldton, Bunbury and Armadale, the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia hosted Energising South East Asia conference and exhibition at the PCEC as well as a number of sustainability fairs such as those at Hulbert St, Scotch College and Maylands.
I would also like to thank the 2010/11 and 2011/12 committees that have been instrumental in the day to day running of the organisation and togerther with the teams, groups and other volunteers have contributed in putting together submissions and other documents, provide graphic design, maintain the website and give presentations to schools and community groups as well as engage with government and industry. Profiles and pictures of the new 2011/12 committee can be viewed by clicking here and if you would like to be more involved in the work of Sustainable Energy Now you can join here. The subscription rates are currently $30 waged member, and $15 unwaged/student per annum. It would be great to have you as a member!
With the above activities together with a host of others you as SEN supporters have all contributed in helping make WA and the world a more sustainable place to live.
Please note that we will be taking a break over summer and so there will not be a January meeting. The next scheduled SEN Presents meeting is on Monday 6th February, 2012 at City West Lotteries House, please add this date in your diary.
Happy Christmas and a Sustainable New Year,
