SEN Presents - Monday 12 September 2016

Annual General Meeting PLUS Preparing for the (Clean) Tech Tsunami of the 21st Century

After a short AGM, we have a special presentation from Professor Ray Wills who has been at the forefront of promoting renewable energy in WA.

Our experience of markets in the last 30 years tell us what to expect when disruptive technologies hit, how quickly new successful technology rushes through the economy, washing the old way of doing things from memory. The adoption of smarter technologies  ̶  including cleantech, automation, robotics and 3D printing  ̶  in homes, businesses and industry in every city, and connected through social media and smart devices including wearables, is changing the world and the way we interact with family, friends and customers, and much faster than (almost) anyone imagined.

Previous markets warn us about how quickly new disruptive technologies might arrive. New supply chains arise far more quickly than in the past. And now clients are demanding cleaner, cheaper, faster, smarter – and also local. But, curiously, most market forecasts for new technology like renewables have assumed business as usual  ̶  traditional usage patterns continuing without anticipating shifts as fast, or disruptive. So, how quickly will we respond, and change how we live and work in the cities we live in? What does this mean for how we plan and regenerate cities? What does this mean for future business growth and rapidly changing community expectations? What might renewed, smart cities look like by 2040?

Professor Ray Wills has a wide-ranging career as researcher, academic, planner, consultant, adviser, manager and executive bringing diverse experience and an exceptional understanding of business, commerce and industry, the environment, policy and government, and sustainability. Since 2011, Ray has been internationally recognised as one of the Top 100 Global Leaders in Sustainability.
